June 10: Farewell to the Seine, Hello Reykjavik!
Morning: Last Moments on the Avalon Tapestry II
Our final morning aboard the Avalon Tapestry II began with the familiar routine of packing and a last breakfast in the ship’s dining room. We set our luggage out for the crew, then gathered in the lounge to wait for our airport transfer. It was a bittersweet time, filled with goodbyes to fellow travelers and the wonderful crew who made our cruise so memorable.
Travel: Paris to Reykjavik
Soon, we were on our way to the airport, ready for the next chapter of our journey. Our flight to Reykjavik, Iceland, was smooth, but marked another round of farewells—this time to seven of our group who were heading back to DC. After landing, we collected our luggage and checked in for the bus transfer into the city. An hour later, we were rolling our suitcases down a block to our hotel, excited to begin our Icelandic adventure.
Arrival & First Impressions of Reykjavik
After checking in and freshening up, we set out for our first walk around Reykjavik’s city center. The city’s colorful buildings, crisp air, and lively streets offered a refreshing change of pace from Paris.
Dinner at Baka Baka
A friend had recommended Baka Baka, a local favorite that transforms from a bakery by day to a pizza spot in the evening. We made a mental note to return for pastries in the morning, but tonight we enjoyed some of the best pizza we’ve had in a while—perfect after a day of travel.
Evening: Exploring & Settling In
After dinner, we continued our stroll, picking up snacks for tomorrow’s tour and taking in the unique charm of Reykjavik. Back at the hotel, we unpacked and tried to settle in for an early night, only to realize the two-hour ǰ difference from Paris had us wide awake. Eventually, we drifted off, ready for a full day of Icelandic exploration ahead.
